About Wedding Cakes

Wedding cakes are meant to inspire a sense of romance and love that the couple have for each other and are also a sign of their commitment to each other. They should be designed with the likes and desires of the bride and groom, as well as in a fashion that reflects any theme the wedding may have. Here are some examples of some great wedding cake ideas:

Heart shaped wedding cakes

Heart shaped cakes make everyone like of love and that’s what weddings are all about. If you want to show your love for each other, you can have your wedding cake made to resemble either one big heart shaped cake, or tiers of heart shaped cakes from large to smaller on top. This is especially nice if the couple is getting married near Valentine’s Day. You can decorate the cake with different colors of icing, ribbons, or maybe even some of the candy hearts with sayings of love on them you find at that time of the year.
These days cupcakes are popular at weddings, so another heart shaped cake idea is to make lots of heart shaped cupcakes and arrange them in one big heart shape on the buffet table. You could have these surrounding a bigger main heart shaped cake if desired.

Stunning Wedding cakes

Just because you don’t have a big budget doesn’t mean that your wedding cake can’t be stunning and beautiful for your big day. You can easily dress up a simple cake and make it stand out from the crowd! This can be done with things like adding silk or real flowers, using a monogrammed or themed cake topper, using fancy decorations like ribbons or edible pearls or other ideas.
For instance, one bride chose a simple four tiered cake with pretty icing and a piping around the edges. She then chose to add some beautiful hydrangeas to arrange on the top of her cake and chose a matching topper for the finishing touch. It turned out to be simple, yet elegant and stylish.
Or, if you have the budget to spend, you can make your cake a special themed cake. There are endless choices for these types of cakes from a glorious Cinderella style castle cake to a Star Trek themed space cake. It all depends on what the bride and groom want.
That’s the bottom line. The bride and groom should pick the cakes they desire whether fancy or simple to reflect their love and devotion and to commemorate this great day for the two of them.

As you know, the high price of wedding cakes these days derives mostly from labor costs - and not the actual materials and ingredients required to make the cake. Choosing a simple wedding cake with no details, frills or intricacy can certainly shave a ton off the bottom line, but what if you could cut the cost of simple cake labor even more? After all, even if you only have one layer of regular (non-fondant) icing on your whole cake, it takes time, lots of time, to get that one layer smooth. Very smooth. Check out this cake - it's "messy" icing application was obviously intentional, but who would have thought it could look so elegant and sophisticated? A simple wedding cake design, made even simpler. Thus, made even cheaper. Sane and Super Sweet!

If you are interested in adding some flowers to your simple wedding cake, consider edible flowers such as Pansies (semi-sweet), Roses (mild and sweet), Lavender (perfumy), Nasturtiums (peppery), Apple Blossoms (delicate floral), Calendulas (range from spicy to bitter, tangy to peppery), Carnations (sweet), Chamomile (sweet, apple-like flavor), Chrysanthemums (tangy, slightly bitter), Day Lilies (slightly sweet with a mild vegetable flavor), Hibiscus (cranberry/citrusy like flavor), Peonies (slightly sweet), and the list goes on.
Of course the flowers you choose for your wedding cake don't have to be edible. Just make sure they are not treated with pesticides or herbicides.

You can also have your florist make an additional small bouquet for the cake topper, and for extra elegance place the bridesmaids bouquets around the cake. You can also create a lot of effect with just the petals sprinkled on the cake, or around the table itself. Simply Stunning!
