Birthday Cake Ideas, Designs, Recipes and Pictures

Decorating cakes can be very challenging job specially when making sculpted dog cake. This cake has many details but you must admit it looks fantastic. It took me plenty of time to make it but it was worth it. Here are the instructions if anyone decides to make it.

First, I baked eight round layers and made frosting which I applied between the layers. When I frosted all the layers, I took the sharp knife and started carving the dog in order to get the shape of dog's body. As I managed to carve dog's chest and back, I carved dog's hind legs also with sharp knife. Then I put the dog's body on a stand and glued it with the frosting.

Since the upper part of the dog's body consisting of four layers is a little bit oblique, I wanted to pin down the whole cake. So, I used three plastic pipes, which I put through the first four layers. Then I put frosting and the upper part of the body and I put the plastic pipe through the upper part so the cake was strengthened.

After that, I covered the whole cake with the coating using spatula to avoid crumbling. The next I did was making dog's head. I made it using styrofoam. I carved it with a knife, carved the muffle, made the holes for the eyes, carved the mouth, put fondant on the top of the head, and smoothed it with fondant smoother. Then I made eyebrows out of fondant and attached them with plastic spatula. I shaped eye sockets with fondant modeling tool with round top. Then I covered the head with fondant, shaped the head contours (eyes, eyebrows, mouth, muffle) and again I used modeling tool for the eyes.

When I finished that, I cut excess fondant around the head. Then I used white fondant to make little balls for the eyes, used black fondant for nose, and shaped it with the spatula. Afterwards I made circles out of black fondant and attached them on the little balls as eyes. I also made whiskers and ears out of fondant and draw stripes on them as fur. Under the whiskers, I placed tongue made of pink fondant and shaped it with the spatula.

I draw stripes around the muffle and eyes as fur. After that, I kneaded the fondant until it was a workable consistency. Then I rolled out fondant sized to my cake with rolling pin. I gently lifted fondant over rolling pin and placed it around the cake. I shaped the fondant to sides of the cake with hands and smoothed it removing air bubbles. I trimmed off excess fondant with the sharp knife. Then I placed the head on the top of the cake and around the neck I glued the dog collar which I made out of fondant.

I made dog's front legs out of fondant, used spatula to draw stripes, attached them to the body, made the tail and draw stripes all over the body as dog's fur. Then I used dusting powder which I brought with a brush, put the pendant on the dog's collar and that's all. Isn't it gorgeous?

Birthday Cake Story

Jodie, a friend of mine, was the best listener ever - very important as we all know. I am introducing her today to you for another quality which nobody could afford to miss.

That is her cake making skill - it is just excellent! She knows to keep things simple yet fantastic.I once sought her help for a birthday cake ideas because I wanted to surprise my little brother with a birthday cake. Jodie came to my home and helped me out.

We made sure that the three round pans (about 8 inches) were greased and floured well.
We used the high speed mixer for five minutes to beat the egg yolks until the solution looked thick and pastel. Here’s how we made the birthday cake. We preheated the oven to 375 degrees F. We sieved flour and separated it again with salt and baking powder twice.

Then Jodie asked me to put butter, sugar and cream in a large bowl.

We added the egg blend. The sifted combination along with milk was poured into the bowl. We added vanilla and stirred it well. Once the batter was prepared, we poured it into the cake pans.

Then we took the cake out and had it cooled on the wire rack for about 15 minutes. We made sure that we decorated the cake well with the right frost. For the birthday cake ideas, Jodie also gave me some excellent tips for ice consistency. We used medium icing. We had flat petaled flowers on the cake and its borders.

Since the icing was not too stiff and not too thin, we could get consistent designs for the border. A way to practice the icing would be to use the rear of a cookie sheet covered with aluminum. Jodie told me that the size and the uniformity of the icing are dependent on how we squeeze and release the grip of the decorating bag. So we have to apply just the right bit of pressure so evenly that we can shift the bag in a nice motion with just the right quantity of icing flowing through the tip.

I am really thankful to her birthday cake ideas. We made 10-12 serving of the birthday cake and yes, all of us enjoyed it. Even you can make a lovely luscious birthday cake by using your thinking cap and executing a brilliant birthday cake ideas.

We baked for half an hour. Then we touched the top part of the cake which was about to be prepared, with a knife at the center, for consistency.
